For the summer, people awaiting flights or the arrival of loved ones are enjoying local musicians doing their thing, which is just as good for idle visitors as it is for the artists getting some exposure. The CD of a person playing a song you loved as you stepped foot in St. John’s is not a bad souvenir.
“We’re delighted to showcase the local talent of our province,” says Marie Manning, Director of Marketing and Business Development with the St. John’s International Airport Authority.
“While we have many scheduled performances to entertain passengers and guests throughout the summer season, we’re also delighted to be able to feature the Trail of Caribou documentary that was created to honour the 100th anniversary of Beaumont-Hamel.”
The “YYT Movie Series” shows many family-friendly movies like Zootopia, Minions, The Good Dinosaur, and Muppets Most Wanted.
Musical performances are taking place from 11:30am-1 in the Atrium area of Level One in the Airport Terminal Building. To date, names like Fergus O’Byrne & Tony O’Brien have played. Upcoming acts are as varied as Steve Maloney, Denis Parker, Ian Foster, Brianna Gosse, and Nick Earle & Joseph Coffin.
Photos and videos from the Airport events will be posted on its social media channels, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Here’s two of the aforementioned performers, Steve joining Brianna, on a boat in Gros Morne:
