With the spring’s Jason Priestley mania long gone, and Ethan Hawke no longer popping up in local bars (as he was last month), the latest hollywood star in St. John’s is Jason Momoa, best known for his role on HBO’s megahit series, Game of Thrones.
Born in Hawaii in ’79, he got his start in … Baywatch! After the show ended, he spent years travelling the world, finally landing in Hollywood in 2001.His world travels helped him land the Game of Thrones role: he performed traditional war dance of the Maori of New Zealand, known as the Haka, at his audition.
In addition to Game of Thrones, he’s also well-known for his role in Stargate: Atlantis, and the remake of Conan the Barbarian. He’s also making the move towards being a filmmaker himself, gearing up to shoot Road to Paloma. He lives with actress Lisa Bonet — of Cosby Show fame — and their two kids.
Details are scant on the movie he is here to shoot. But it’s called Braven, and is about a logger who must defend his family from “a group of dangerous drug runners.” Its director is Lin Oeding, who has credits in films like Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, and the 2009 Star Trek remake.
Lin is also known for having fought, on screen, the likes of Chuck Norris, Jet Li, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Tom Cruise, Leo DiCaprio, Christian Bale and Ben Affleck ( both as Batman), Vin Diesel, Steven Segal, Jason Statham, and even Seth Rogen & Anne Hathaway.
Braven is a first script for its co-writers. After Braven, Jason Momoa will be playing the role of Aquaman, not twice but thrice: in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), The Justice League Part 1 (2017), and Aquaman (2018).
I believe it was Ethan Hawk!
thanks! They look so similar …
