Magnum & Steins has been, for years, one of the finest restaurants in St. John’s, and it’s still up to new tricks. They’ve just introduced a new wine bar and lounge with a fabulous small plate menu, and more than twenty wines by the glass. Fish tacos, duck confit nachos, beef tartare — their lounge menu offers up seriously great dishes. And then there’s the delectable dining in the full-on restaurant space — gin-cured salmon, panzella salad, oven-roasted lamb with cheesy herbed polenta. Should you win this $150 certificate, you’re in for quite a treat. And all you have to do to win is comment below, telling us your favourite wine, vaguely or specifically. Red or white? Pinot noir or shiraz? French pinot or pinot from Oregon? “I don’t like wine” is also an eligible answer. If you do win, you should know that every Sunday and Monday this month at Magnum & Steins is “Wine Lover’s Night.” You can buy a bottle of any of these wines at NLC costs (+ a $12 corkage fee). And, tonight only, for $55 person, you can enjoy a nice night of food & wine pairings: three great dishes paired with three great wines.
Wednesday Giveaway! Win a $150 Certificate from Magnum & Steins!

Sauvignon Blanc.. the American ones especially!
Kelly’s, of course (preferably concealed in a brown paper bag)
Italian Chianti goes well with fava beans…….
Had this fab red at Magnum’s the last time I was there – think it was a Malbec. Whatever it was it was red I luved!
There’s nothing like the thin, watery slip of cherry skin a pinot noir can offer you in the summertime, or the chunky tannin-rich warmth of a chianti for winter.
It’s got to be Malbec from Argentina, hands down! Cigar Box is a great one.
Las moras Malbec or Tennant
Love Las Moras Argentinian Malbec
Picking my favorite wine would be like picking my favorite child. Then again, I only have one child so I’d have to go with Masi Campioforin.

Love Cabernets or malbecs.
Mouton Cadet Bordeaux!
My Favorite wine is Chateaunuef du Pape. The complexity of this wine is so amazing it allows it to go with many foods or it can be drank on it’s own. I would recommend the 2001 Cheateau Beaucastel as a special go to for birthdays, anniversaries, or for a job well done 🙂
Pinot Grigio. I would love to see more organic selections such as Boira as I have an allergy but I love Magnums so much I just suffer it out. Your Duck Nachos are amazing!

Open a bottle of Malbec and throw away the cork.
I’m not too picky- enjoy most reds. Shiraz is prob my top pick!
I like most white wines. Pinot Grigio is always good but it depends on what I’m in the mood for. I also love a sweet bubbly wine for dessert after a great meal, especially with friends around.
I also get cold service at restaurants after I refuse the alcohol list (does the wait staff think I’m cheap?). I’m just allergic to alcohol and my partner doesn’t drink. Non-alcoholic drink pairings, is that ever a thing?
Don David ..Malbec
Anything red, but Malbec is my first choice:)
Pinot Grigio! And the blends that make up Apoctic White!

I love Jost’s Marechal Foch from Nova Scotia. Yum! You can buy it at the NL liquor store. It used to be an easy to find middle shelf product, but is now hidden away on the bottom shelf, probably because not many people buy it in NL. You are missing out everyone! This is an amazing wine at a great price!

St Stephens Crown, a fine Hungarian merlot. a lovely fruity red with deep tannic undertones, full bodied, from a very old vinyard. don’t let the low price fool you – that’s the result of the exchange rates. this wine is perfect with meat, red fish, and pasta. or on its own!
Pinot Noir!
I don’t have a favorite… I just like them all 😉
beaujolais
Cheap & White, like myself.
My favorite wine has to be Chateau Musar. It’s Lebanese and the vineyard has a rich and storied past. The wine itself is like a Super Tuscan but has the taste of old vines. Lovely.
