Observe the Moon
Saturday 5:00 – 7:00pm @ Salmonier Nature Park
The St. John’s Centre chapter of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada is hosting a special moon viewing event at Salmonier Nature Park this weekend. Members of the society will provide telescopes, advice for viewing, and information about the moon. Hot drinks and snacks will be available from the Friends of Salmonier Nature Park. A great opportunity for seasoned astronomers to meet new pals and amateurs astronomers to up their game.
Festival of Music and Lights
Saturday 5:00 – 6:00pm @ Bowering Park
The Bowring Park Foundation is inviting people to join them in the park as they flick the switch on their elaborate holiday light display. There’ll be free hot chocolate and live music by local choirs and the award-winning trad band Rum Ragged. The event is free, but organizers will be accepting non-perishable food items to be donated to a local food bank. Bundle up the whole family and spend an afternoon outdoors enjoying a sparkling spectacle in the park.

The House of Wooden Santas
Sunday 3:00 – 4:00pm @ The Rooms
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the publication of Kevin Major’s classic children’s book The House of Wooden Santas. The Rooms is celebrating with a special author reading where Kevin Major will lead participants through a display of the real Wooden Santas (carved by Imelda George) that inspired the book. The perfect cozy Sunday afternoon for kids of any age.
