“Is it just me or is the new web design of this site WAY too cluttered with massive images which makes navigation a headache? The site seems WAY too busy now and gives the illusion of more content but really its the same stuff linked 3 different times on the main page. I don’t know about you but looking at the homepage gives me anxiety.” – Sensory Overload

Hey guys. Not to butt in on the conversation here, but as a quick note, the new website is live, but not yet finalized. It’ll be picked at and adjusted for the rest of the month, and the main duplication mentioned here (reviews AND Arts section) will be removed, long story short, as new sections are added in to replace them. Suggestions welcome.
Wow, Sarah K, is this how you speak to perfect strangers? Yelling and insulting them? All I meant is, this is my field, and I know that clients want websites that keep people poking around. You ask a lawyer for legal advice, a doctor friend about a weird mole, a web designer about this stuff. That’s all. No need cutting my head off. I’d work on friendliness in 2018 if I were you. I’d also ask for your opinion on somethign in your field without presuming you were an arrogant arse.
Look out everyone! “Anon” is a web designer, he must really know his stuff!
Speak your mind Max and don’t mind the losers who say otherwise. I can’t believe how childish the Overcast readers can be.
“The peculiar evil of silencing the expression of an opinion is, that it is robbing the human race; posterity as well as the existing generation; those who dissent from the opinion, still more than those who hold it. If the opinion is right, they are deprived of the opportunity of exchanging error for truth: if wrong, they lose, what is almost as great a benefit, the clearer perception and livelier impression of truth, produced by its collision with error.”
― John Stuart Mill, On Liberty
Yeah, no need jumping down Max’s throat guys. But I do agree on a few things here:
1.) These kinds of public critiques should be sent to the owner of the paper, not posted here to to bore us with personal grievances. I say that because a small pocket of people with overblown issues with The Overcast make too much noise. Do not give them a podium to drag a great community paper down.
2.) Having a separate Review Section is in fact both cool, and, redundant. A worthy critique, but a pretty standard practice on alt paper websites, like Now or the Georgia Straight.
3.) I am a web designer. The idea is to keep people lingering, poking around, and this website does that well, for a website that goes for quality over quantity of posts. I respect that choice. This website beats the other news outlets, where I scroll through a feed of new stories … at a loss for something even worth a read.
Wasn’t trying to troll or be a hater with my comment, just giving some criticism of what I think. I kind of liked the way the site was previously but everybody has their own opinions.
Isn’t it in Bullhorn Policy not to post trolls hating on the paper? It junks up the Bullhorn feed.
New website is awesome, I love how you’ve taken on Event listings, and really feature user-generated content liek the bullhorn!
I’m with Don. The only thing that repeats is the reviews section. Otherwise, the new site is very neatly ordered, so I can go to sections of interest. Don’tn get downtrodden by “Sensory Overload” Overcast!
What repeats others than the reviews section? I think it’s great. The Read of the day will repeat in the section it falls under too, but I find it useful as someone who visits here daily. I think you’re just being a hater to be honest. Kind of a scumbag move, it’s Friday, lighten up.
