Nick Ryan’s new effort, Prose and Cons, is big on pros and has no cons. Genuine to its genre — even the solos are whistled — his graceful, fluid guitar is the album’s only instrumentation. The acoustic work is spare, delicate, and complemented by the gorgeous voice of Naomi Kavka. Prose and Cons is an album of duets, and their voices match as well as any local duo. The album features seven great songs, and the right amount of diversity between its songs to maintain a straight-up, authentic folk feel. This is one of the best local albums of 2014. And we’re off to quite a good start this year.
If you don’t have a ticket to their sold out album launch at the LSPU Hall this weekend, here’s what you’re missing.
