Paragon is MUN’s literary journal, i.e, a great place for local authors (and others) to publish their poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and art, and a means for its evolving staff to learn a thing or two about the publishing trade.
Its current editors — Matthew Pike, Mona’a Malik, and Aley Waterman — would like to step it up a notch into the fancy realm of colour pages, “so we can do everyone’s beautiful contributions justice.” Hence the fundraiser. You get a nice Sunday night, and Paragon gets money to make their next issue match their vision for it. Everyone wins, even you.
The evening will feature readings by Lisa Moore, Chad Pelley, and Mary Dalton.
It will also feature musical sets by the following songwriters:
Jake Nicoll, sample song: “A Song for All Forgotten Things”
Steve Maloney, Sample Song: “On the Other Hand”
Fog Lake (Aaron Powell), Sample Song: “It Was Never Enough”
Like a songwriters circle, each artist will showcase a few minutes of something that he/she has written and wants to share (be it a short story, some poetry, a couple of songs, an excerpt from a book), and then pass it on to the next person.
This is happening at 166 Water Street, the spot that was used for Keep Station, and as the Lawnya Vawnya Headquarters, next to Scanlon’s Across from Smokes’s Poutinerie.
Cover: $10 at the door. Door opens at 7:30, event starts at 8 (real 8, not St. John’s 8 which is 9:30).
