Every week, we load new songs into our music library for Overcast Radio. Below are five standouts we added last week.
From California: Cold War Kids — “One Song at a Time”
Some pounding indie rock with great pop-hook sensibilities. The chorus claims, “You can only love one song at a time.” If that’s true, this song is worthy of such monogamy this week.
From Philadelphia: Creepoid — “American Smile”
Produced by Peter Mavrogeorgis (The National, Sharon Van Etten), Cemetery Highrise Slum is a great, gloomy shoegaze album with some serious grunge throwback charm.
From England: Grubs — “Windwaker”
2/3’s of the band come from other likeminded UK bands, Joanna Gruesome and Trust Fund. Their 2014 split “Dec.15 / Gym Shame” got them enough media attention for serious anticipation of their upcoming debut LP, It Must Be Grubs.
From Florida: Fake Problems — “Can You Live with That?”
This track is off their Holy Attitude / Can You Live With That? split 7″, partially inspired by Jack Kerouac’s Tritessa
From Montreal: Half Moon Run — “Trust”
While the new album won’t drop ’til late October, the first single is here, and marks a new sound for the ethereal Montreal quartet. They’e been quoted as saying their new material “largely eschews the alt-folk melancholia.” It’s definitely borrowing some elements from dance and pop.
