Corner Brook’s Emma Peckford has been playing guitar since she was seven, and she’s been singing at events since she was even younger. The early start might explain how she’s so talented at 15.
This past weekend, Emma won the She’s the One competition, which is part of the Ottawa Bluesfest. The competition’s goal is to scour the country for “one special artist with an incredible voice backed up by a moving live performance.”
Here’s Emma NAILING an Iron & Wine cover.
Part of the $50,000 prize package includes a trip to Los Angeles to work with producer Barrett Yeretsian to record a song at Sunset Sound Recording Studios. While in L.A, she’ll also be shooting a music video.
Since her first true solo performance at the 2012 Roots, Rants, and Roars festival, her career’s been on the rise. Emma won first place in 2013’s MusicNL Statoil New Found Talent Contest, and earlier this year, she was nominated for Corner Brook’s Achievement in Community Excellence Emerging Artist Award. Heavy Weather have also pencilled Emma into their busy schedules.
You can catch her at this year’s Folk Festival in August.
