For years now, St. John’s has been calling award-winning teenage musician Kat McLevey “one to watch.” On August 28th, she’ll be releasing her long-awaited full-length debut, Evergrown.
“Tell Me Once”
If there’s one thing to take from this new single it’s that she’s no longer one to watch, but one to catch up with. It’s time to stop calling her a musical wonder-kid, or promising young songwriter, because the new story is this: Kat McLevey is writing in the singer-songwriter genre as well as any of her townie contemporaries.
A song like “Tell Me Once” is evidence she’s lived up to her promise, and eclipsed it, with a sophisticated, spare, highly controlled and moody ballad that leaves a mark on its listeners. It’s sounding like not rushing the release of her big LP debut will have paid off. A more thorough review of the album will appear in September’s print issue.
Kat McLevey’s CD Release will take place at The LSPU Hall on Friday, August 28th. The show starts at 8 p.m.Tickets are $20, available at the LSPU Hall box office. She’ll be joined by guests AE Bridger and Carole Bestvater & Friends.
