Amanda Bulman, comedian and culinary queen, plus the winner of this year’s 1K Wave Atlantic filmmaking award (and The Overcast’s very own Albedo Grant!) will host the St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival’s Friday the 13th Bingo Fundraiser, happening on at the Elks Lodge.
Get lucky and get dabbing on Friday the 13th at this Bingo-based fundraising event, whose host is the founder of Halifax’s first all-women comedy ensemble, That Time of the Month. “Award-winning comedian and filmmaker Amanda Bulan is the ideal host for The Festival’s Friday 13th Bingo Fundraiser,” says The Festival.
Bulman also founded the celebrated comedy and storytelling series, Don’t Panic. As a comedian, she has opened for Eugene Mirman at the Halifax Pop Explosion, and for Cheryl Hann of PicnicFace. She has also worked with Ghost with a Knife, an improv troupe from Nova Scotia.
Bulman recently won the Women in Film and Television Atlantic and PUnk Films’ 1k Wave Award for a documentary she is currently filming called The First Five Minutes. The film looks at reasons people quit making art and what it takes for them to start again.
In St. John’s, Bulman runs The Holy Grail Donut Pop Up and hosts comedy nights once a month at the Fifth Ticket. She has organized to bring a comedy show where comedians who are also survivors of rape talk about their experiences with sexual violence, to St. John’s. Rape is Real and Everywhere, A Comedy Show is touring the country and will be at the Spirit of Newfoundland on June 2nd 2016.
In addition to being entertained by their hilarious host, Friday night’s bingo players will have the opportunity to win $3,000 in prizes, including a grand prize of $500 cash. There will also be tickets for sale on a 50/50 draw and door prizes!
