There simply isn’t another festival around where acclaimed chefs are cooking up stuff they just hauled from the earth, to serve you, as you laze around outdoors in rural NL, watching comedians like Mark Critch crack jokes to a small crowd, or fabulous musicians playing stripped down intimate sets.
Seriously: most festival lineups have a few bands. The Gathering has a few bands, and comedians, and replaces food trucks with 10 chefs on the ground (this year they include Raymonds’ Jeremy Charles, Chinched’s Shaun Hussey, Fogo’s Murray MacDonald, and SEVEN others.
Music this year will be Hey Rosetta, Sherman Downey, The Once, THe Navigators, Green & Gold, The Dardanelles, Gary & Whit, Kim Harris, and more.
“The Gathering still prides itself in simplicity, while embracing the experience that rural Newfoundland and Labrador has to offer. As part of a broader initiative to create a sustainable micro economy through tourism, The Gathering is a viable branch of ‘OME, a social enterprise started by actor and comedian Shaun Majumder, that puts his home town of Burlington on the map.”
All ticket sales go back into the community in support of ‘OME. ‘OME is the umbrella not-for-profit that currently oversees The Gathering, Hummock View Greens (a sustainable greenhouse locally operated in Burlington), ‘Ome Sweet ‘Ome (luxury glamping tents and guest pod), and ‘Ome Fry (a chip van that operates locally during the summer months)
“Success through ‘OME will create social businesses and help fuel an economic engine that will contribute to a new, significant tourism destination on the Baie Verte Peninsula, NL. Contributions will go towards providing financial support to entrepreneurs in the Burlington-Smith’s Harbour-Middle Arm area, along with helping to maintain a sustainable micro economy for the region.
