Féile Séamus Creagh is an annual festival of Traditional Music, Song and Dance from Newfoundland and Ireland. It is named in memory of the late Irish fiddle master Séamus Creagh, who lived in Newfoundland for a number of years from the late 1980s, and whose musical influence helped to shape the traditional music style of a whole generation of Newfoundland musicians. The five day festival features visiting Irish, as well as local Newfoundland performers, and highlights the close musical relationships between these two places. The festival includes a lecture, four concerts (Freshwater (Carbonear), Bay Bulls, St. John’s and Ferryland), traditional music workshops, and sessions.
This year we have another fantastic line-up, featuring Ireland’s Matt Cranitch, Jackie Daly & Paul De Grae, Anna, Sheila & Clare Friel, and Edwina Guckian. From Newfoundland we are pleased to welcome Dave Penny, Fergus O’Byrne & Fergus Brown-O’Byrne, Greg & Karla Walsh, and Rum Ragged. We are also delighted to have the Newfoundland/Irish group Cordeen perform this year, as they begin the Newfoundland leg of their tour.
We will kick off our week with a lecture on the dance traditions of Ireland, featuring Ireland’s Edwina Guckian.
