Waterfront Fire has been one of the city’s most lauded bands for the last two years or so, but their prolific output doesn’t seem to be enough for Jordan Coaker, who also records with another band, Quote the Raven, alongside Kirsten Rodden-Clarke.
A duo is at their best when the harmonies are heavenly, and the instrumentation is minimal — so as to not intrude on the vocals and lyrics — but also complex enough to round out the background of a song and not leave it bare. On their new single, “Winter’s Evergreen,” Quote the Raven definitely nail this formula. It’s a duet doing something right. They’re hoping to release the album in April.
