As you know, you can vote for the candidate whose party leader you want as premier, or, you can vote for the candidate in your district whom you think will best represent your neighbourhood’s wants and needs. Liberal Candidate: Steve Porter
♦ Professional background is in construction: clocked 33 years in the construction Industry, including 13 years running S&L Porter Homes, and he’s a partner in a developer of large subdivisions in CBS.
♦ Former president of the Canadian Home Builders Association of NL; been a provincial rep on the CHBA’s national board; has been involved in major renovations to All Saints Parish in Foxtrap.
♦ A self-proclaimed “dedicated community leader” who has volunteered for sports, youth, and seniors activities in the CBS region, and “regularly contributes to community events.”
NDP Candidate: Jeanne Clarke
♦ Professional background is in housing; she clocked 30 years with the NL Housing Corporation; a crown corporation mandated to “develop and administer housing assistance policy and programs for low to moderate income households throughout the province.”
♦ A CUPE educational facilitator, and labour activist.
♦ Known as an advocate for “social justice, fairness, and equality.”
PC Candidate: Barry Petten
♦ Professional Background is 20 years in counselling people with mental health issues.
♦ Board work has included time with the NL Association of Social Workers. He has He has also served 6 years as a commissioner with the Eastern Region Municipal Appeals Board.
♦ Served on the provincial executive for 4 years, as an area VP, and worked for the Government of NL as Executive Assistant to the Minister of Transportation and Works from 2009-2014.
