St. John’s Pride is a registered non-profit company that has a mandate to provide and facilitate educational, networking and issue awareness ; their focus is on fostering leadership and diversity in the LGBTQ community and delivering public events that celebrate and promote the visibility of LGBTQ people, their accomplishments, and Newfoundland Heritage. Nothing does so more than their annual St. John’s Pride week.
Monday July 20th
Pride week will start with flag raisings at Confederation Building (10am), Cit Hall (noon), and MUN’s Student Centre (2pm). There’ll also be a community BBQ at the Breezeway from 3:30-6.
Kick-off Wine & Cheese at Eastern Edge Gallery, 8pm
The opening party is sponsored by sponsored by Quidi Vidi Brewery, Five Brothers Artisan Cheese, and the Newfoundland Chocolate Company. It’s an opportunity to “Network with fellow LBGTQ and Allies over delicious artisan Five Brothers cheese and Newfoundland chocolate, while sipping on a cold, crisp Quidi Vidi brew! Listen to live music while viewing Queer art installations “Rousings” by Jamie Ross, and “Citations” by Jade Yumang, and a sneak peek at Shakespeare By The Sea Festival’s version of “Comedy of Errors,” featuring a lesbian/gender queer couple. Entry is $10 at the door (unless you have a pride pass), and ID is required upon entry. You must be 19+ to attend. Beer and Wine will be $4 a bottle/glass, cheese and chocolate are paid for by entry.

This event kicks off at 8:30pm with $6.50 Martinis, at The Grapevine on Water st.
Tuesday July 21st
MUN Campus Pride
There’ll be a “Solidary Brunch” at Bitters Pub, from noon to 2pm, and a Pride film screening with CinemaPolitica, from 5-7pm (venue was still TBA at the time this article was posted).
Middle Cove Pride Bonfire; Transportation provided
“Stop by the Pride Bonfire Circle for some friend and story-time, to grab a lantern, and to take part in our Vigil for those we have lost this year. Pride will also be selling a limited number of S’mores Kits, which include Marshmallows, Graham Crackers, Chocolate, Glow Sticks, Rainbow Fire, and stickers! Each kit will be $10, and all proceeds will go towards Pride and youth events. We would also like to remind Bonfire goers to please not bring glass to Middle Cove, and to clean up as much as you can before leaving. We will also be going around to ensure that we leave the beach as it was, if not nicer!” You can catch a lift! Two bus rides in from Bitters Pub & Grad House at 7:30 and 8:30pm with two return trips at 10:30 and 11:30pm.
Wednesday July 22nd
MUN Pride on Campus Activities
There’ll be an LBGT Clothing Swap from 11am-3pm on the 3rd floor of the UC, as well as an Open Mic Night at Breezeway, starting 10pm.
Sex and Relationships Panel
This event will take place from 3-5pm at Bitters Pub. It is exactly what it sounds like, “A panel to talk all things Sex and Relationships hosted by Dr. Sarah from The Friday Night Sex Show.”
Out in Faith
This event will take place from 7-9pm at Rocket Bakery, and will be a multi-devotional panel to discuss the intersectionality of Religion, Sexual Orientation, and Gender Expression in a safe space. Snacks and Coffee provided by Rocket Bakery.THis was one of last year’s most popular events.
Hump Day Bash
The Hump Day Bash will take place from 10pm-1am at Stanley’s Pub, and will feature a mix of live bands and karaoke.
The Outport Rooftop Pride Dance Party
$3 drinks and a dance party at Turkey Joe’s on George. Featuring DJ LEx. $5 cover.
Thursday July 23rd
Youth and Education Day
Taking place from 10am-4pm, it’s a full day of youth activities at MUN. There’s a free Metrobus Shuttle lined up from the UC at 4:30 pm to St. Pat’s Bowling for the Youth Bowling Event that eve.

Hop on a free Metrobus from MUN (UC Centre), and head to St. Pat’s Bowling Lanes. “Come join us for a slice of pizza and a safe space to have fun, talk with your peers, and be yourself. This event is $5, but free with the purchase of a Pride Pass (along with Wine and Cheese, and More Than Queens).”

Pride Prep Party
From 1-4 at The Loft in UC3001.
More Than Queers’ Dance Party Carnivale
This event takes place at 11pm at Distortion. It’s a “kinky dance party carnivale. Entry fee is $15. People are encouraged to attend in their “most fabulous queer finery for an evening of live music, drag, burlesque, and some ridiculous games.” At 11:30 The Connexions will open up with some great music, and there will be a ropes demonstration in the alcove for the curious folks. Shortly after midnight, host Doctor Androbox will perform some live drag performances. A few other drag superstars will be performing too, including Johnny Diamond. “At 12:30, we will open up our newest edition, the carnival booths! Play pin the junk on the punk, hosted by Johnny Diamond, or get two-minute drag makeover by some of our fabulous queens. A few other fun surprises will be revealed that evening! Dance music will take us through the rest of the night, so come on down and prepare for a WILD ride!”

“Proud to Be Me” event at St. John’s Farmer’s Market
“Come play, paint signs for the parade, and wear rainbow colours to show your pride. We’ll have free paint and craft materials, and rainbow flags.” The event is at Lion’s Park, near where the Farmer’s Market takes place.
Pride in Baseball
Play a game of baseball for $10 — “Who knows, maybe you’ll even get to second of third base ;).” Event takes place, 10 am, at Mundy Pond Field.
LBGTQ Hike
Take a quick hike from Quidi Vidi Dog Park to the Gut in Quidi Vidi. Dogs welcomed. Starts at noon.
Trans Picnic
The Happy Hummus Hut has kindly donated delicious vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free food for this picnic, which will take place at 3pm. (If it’s raining, go to Happy Hummus Hut instead.)
Pride Knockerball
This event takes place 1pm at Bowring Park. “Come swing by to participate in games of Knocker Soccer, or to just knock around at your own leisure! Enter through the main entrance (the big parking lot). Walk through the front gate and follow the road straight. We’ll be set up on the right-hand side in a small green space. You can’t miss us! (We will also have people to help direct you.) Cost is $10/participant for unlimited play. Participants are obligated to sign our e-waiver. Proud to Yoga
Moksha Yoga St. John’s is opening their doors “for a private Queer friendly Yoga session, including gender neutral washrooms, body positivity, and cool vibes! There is a $5 entry fee, and be sure to bring lots of water. Moksha rents mats and towels, and this event is welcome to everyone.” Moksha Yoga, 6:30-7:30.
Bursting with Pride Dance Party
An inclusive dance party for the LBGTQ community and its allies. Doors open at the Masonic Temple at 9:30 pm. $10 at the door.
The Womyn’s Station
DJ Leona will get this women’s dance party started at The Station Lounge, 10pm, $15 at the door, butthere are $10 tickets available online. Men are welcome.

“Time to relax, take in the sun, be entertained, and have some fun! Pride at the Lake is our after party for Pride Week. After a long walk, it is time to kick back, socialize, and listen to some live entertainment, explore the market, and play some games!
